Replaced the battery in our Acura RDX

Replaced the battery in our Acura RDX
After 5 or 6 years, a car batteries no matter their indicated warranties, lose some of their cold cranking amps (CCA). If I were a “maintenance-focused only kind of guy," I’d probably just replace batteries every 5 years rather than waiting forthem to fail. BUT… as usual … I wait until the winter when it is near zero degrees!Since it is early February, it is of course cold. Brenda’s 2010 Acura RDX has been sitting for a month due to Brenda’s hip replacement (in the garage at least) and it failed to start this past week.

The Remarkable Life of Poon Lim

RichC
EXCERPT => “On November 23, 1942, the Royal Navy destroyer SS Benlomond was torpedoed by a German submarine. Poon Lim, a Chinese civilian seaman aboard the ship, found himself stranded in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Against all odds, Poon Lim survived 133 days at sea before being rescued by Brazilian fishermen. This blog post will take a closer look at Poon Lim’s remarkable life and story."

Olympus Mons - Mars Volcano Mountain and Rheasilvia on 4Vesta
Did you know that Olympus Mons is the tallest mountain in our solar system. It is 2-1/2 times higher than Mount Everest is above sea level and has a height of over 72,000 feet. It is tied with Rheasilvia on the asteroid 4 Vesta as the tallest mountain currently discovered in the Solar System. (Rheasilvia is a crater and was likely created by an asteroid impact which has a central peak that rises 14 miles above the lowest measured part of the crater floor and the highest measured part of the crater rim is 19 miles above the crater floor low point).

CIRP - Typora Table Test

While viewing a wide table view on a website after posting a table last week, I was curious as to how Markdown would handle a copy/paste wide table - (tweaked - had to narrow and eliminate columns to fit the width). Flyover images of mountains on Pluto

RichC
As a boy growing up enamored with the NASA Apollo program and going to the moon in the 1960s, I’m still a little peeved at Pluto’s demotion from planet status. Nevertheless, I’m amazed at the New Horizon spaceship’s video flying over the mountains of Pluto. Amazing and a worthwhile Friday Filler on MyDesultoryBlog.com.

A curved glass bird feeder idea

RichC
For those with with a love for feeding birds and access to a curved piece of glass (or perhaps the ability to heat and curve plexiglass???) … here’s an interesting project idea. Click on image for a short .mp4 video Although having this bird feeder in your window might get old after a while, it would be a great idea for those shut-in or able to convince an assisted living facility to be able to put this in a window.

RDC Personal Font

RDC Personal Font
While working with Amazon’s AWS S3 storage for a customer demo, I ran across my archived RDC Personal Font from March of 2009. I forgot just how much I enjoy making it and would have enjoyed making a few more specialized fonts. <base target="blank"> Also … I’m attempting to use a bit of “rawhtml” code (above) prior to the Markdown text in order to open links in a new tab so as not to distract from reading a post.

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) 1 - The Subaru Telescope on Mauna Kea captured video last week of a mysterious light over Hawaii. And it wasn’t a bird, plane … or UFO. Turns out the so-called “flying spiral” is actually a new satellite that was launched earlier that day by SpaceX. SpaceX sent a Global Positioning Satellite into space for the U.S. Space Force on Wednesday. On Jan 18, 2023 (HST), the Subaru-Asahi Star Camera captured a mysterious flying spiral over Maunakea, Hawai`i.

Linux Server Hugo “-Watch” Cron difficulty

Linux Server Hugo “-Watch” Cron difficulty
While experimenting with the Hugo watch server for static pages and updating while posting on the fly from iAWriter on the iPad, I’ve been unable to set up a Linux cron instead of the -watch mode. It is going to require a little more digging into this as this is not intended to be a production server. For now I’ll keep experimenting with Markdown and memorizing a few of the quicker features that makes writing notes and posting them easy … *perhaps there is a way to tie this into my quickdex.
